Match a familiar to its unit and team using the wiki Top 8 matrix, with separate ordinary, Demon and unit-specific Vanguard categories. Its 23 September 2026 revision predates Update 15 on 12 October; it does not establish a universal S/A/B Familiar ranking.

Familiar recommendations by unit

Apathetic Savior (Door) has both a Demon familiar tag and an ordinary familiar tag; these are not two names for the same item. Vanguard familiars are bound to one compatible unit and cannot be corrupted or rerolled.

Trials are not the only acquisition route

Some Vanguard familiars are trial rewards: Smith John awards Disguising Mask, Dawntay awards Familial Jewel, and The Struggler awards Cannon Ball. Evolving a unit and earning its familiar are separate tasks.

Other Vanguard familiars use shops or other progression systems; do not describe every Vanguard familiar as a trial drop. The developer adds 14 more in Update 15, including Returned Dungeon rewards, which the older Top 8 tags do not compare.

The wiki FAQ excludes Vanguard familiars from trading. Ordinary familiar effects can depend on rerolls and corruption, so a tag alone does not establish a fixed damage advantage.

What is the best familiar?

The table records unit-specific wiki recommendations, not a universal familiar rank. Compatibility, team synergy and ordinary familiar rolls matter. New Update 15 familiars are not evaluated by the older ranking snapshot.

Can I buy a Vanguard familiar?

You cannot buy one from another player through trading according to the wiki FAQ. Earn it through its documented trial, shop or progression route; some Vanguard familiars are available from NPC shops.
